Colby's first pediatrician appointment

Long overdue.... but I'm finally finding time to write about the first few weeks of Colby's life.

On 9/7 (at 4 days old) Colby had his first Pediatrician appointment.  Before Colby was born, I asked my OB, Dr. B, how to pick out a Pediatrician or if he recommended any.  He said (in his typical, no-nonsense way) "I'd just pick one that is close to where you live.  For the first year or so of your baby's life you will not be on time to anything.... so if there is less distance to cover to get there, you have a better chance at being closer to on time."  LOL

He also said that every pediatrician / family practice doctor he had met / heard about within the Everett Clinic (the clinic we tend to go through / the clinic he's part of) is great.  So I started searching online to find a nearby pediatrician or family practice doctor.  Jimmy and I found one that was here in Lake Stevens, and were all set that he would be Colby's doctor (and probably ours - since he was a family practice doctor).

Well, Colby was born on Labor Day weekend - and the pediatrician at the hospital really recommended he be seen either Tuesday (9/7) or Wednesday (9/8) for his first appointment.  Basically, you just call the doctor and let them know they have a new patient, and set up an appointment.  Unfortunately when Jimmy called Tuesday morning, the doctor we had picked was a) out of town and b) booked until the 13th!  So we started calling around.

We found a clinic that had a pediatrician with an available appointment that afternoon, and booked it.  We figured we'd go in, get the first appointment out of the way, and then change doctors if we wanted.  This doc wasn't too far away (within a 15 minute drive).

Well..... we love our pediatrician!  So glad how it all worked out!  She is very nice, addresses any of our questions, shows enough concern but not overly "lectury".  Jimmy and I left the first pediatrician appointment and both turned to eachother and said "I don't think we need to re-schedule with another doctor".  Yippee!!!!!

Colby did great at the appointment.  They weighed him, meausured how long he was, measured his head circumference, and she talked with us about our questions and about typical new parent / new baby topics.

Colby's stats:
Weight: 6lbs, 5oz (birthweight was 6lbs, 13oz) - 10th percentile
Length: 19.33 inches (was 18.75 at birth) - 29th percentile
Head circumference: 35 cm / 13.78inches - 29th percentile

The doc said that his weight loss was within the normal range.  She did, however, want to schedule his "2 week checkup" a little sooner to make sure he had bounced back and gained more weight.  We were pretty sure that would happen, as my milk had come in the night before the appointment.... but better safe than sorry!

She also knew we had the lactation appointment the next day, and that they'd weigh him there.  She said if Colby had gained something like 3oz or so that we could call and re-schedule the 2 week appointment for closer to when he actually was 2 weeks.

Here are some pictures from that day!

The pediatrician appointment was our first adventure out of the house.  We actually went to Target first (we had to buy some newborn sized clothes because we really didn't have many because we didn't expect them to fit our "huge" baby), then to lunch at Wendy's, then to the appointment.  Big adventures!!!

All loaded up for the adventures!

Being weighed - not liking it very much! :-)

All wrapped up after the "torture" :-)

Being cute!
