Updates

Just a warning - this post is going to get long!  It's been a busy week!

Monday I took the 1 hour Glucose tolerance test.  I took it early (20 weeks, 5 days instead of the usual 28 or so weeks) due to the fact we knew I was at higher risk of developing gestational diabetes (GD) because of having PCOS.  The orange stuff they make you drink was pretty nasty.  It kinda burned my throat.  But I endured it, and sat there reading a baby book (and oogling over a 10 day old baby sitting next to me) for an hour.  While Jimmy sometimes says I'm a pessimist... I think I'm just a realist.  I was kinda sure I was going to fail the test.  So what did I do?  I went out and got a Blizzard since it may be my last.

Sure enough, I found out Tuesday I failed the 1 hour test SO badly that I don't even have to take the 3 hour test.  I've been diagnosed with GD.  They have set me up with an appointment with a dietician / nutritionist tomorrow that will help me learn about what I can / cannot eat.... quantitites.... and testing my blood sugar multiple times a day.  They are hopeful we will be able to combat this with the Metformin I'm already on and an adjustment to my diet.  We'll see!  I know it will be difficult at times - but so worth it, for me and baby Eggo.

Friday, I took a half day off of work and drove down to Portland.  My friend Amy was in town from the East Coast, and we wanted to get together for coffee / breakfast (she's pregnant and due July 17th!!!).  So I surprised my family, and showed up at their house on Friday night!!!  We got my mom good - and it was fun to surprise them!  This was the first time I'd done the drive since probably when we moved up to Seattle - Jimmy ALWAYS drives when we go down there!

I got to go to my brother's lacrosse game on Friday night (that's the main reason I took the half day... and I wasn't sure when Amy and I were going to get together).  I was so glad I got this opportunity!  One of the main reasons I wish we lived closer to home is so that I could go to my baby brother's games (okay, I know, he's 17.... he's hardly a baby).  Well..... they WON!  This was their first win in a while.  He played an AWESOME game!  He's the goalie on the varsity team, and he kicks butt!!!  The final score was 7-5.  It was a hard fought game - and so much fun!

Saturday morning I had breakfast / coffee with Amy.  We realized it had been over 3.5 years since we had seen eachother!  WAY too long!  It was fun to talk and catch up.... compare preggo stories... and just be with an old friend.  We agreed we would have to do it again before another 3.5 years passed by.  We're both having boys - so we're pretty sure there will have to be a playdate around December or so when she comes back to Oregon again!

Next, my Mom, Dad, and I went to Home Depot.  Picking out some edging rocks for their yard.  A silly and quick errand.... but I love my mom and dad and any time I get to spend with them is just so much fun!

My mom and I then headed out for our afternoon activities - a Mother / Daughter tea out at the ranch where my sister, Kelsey lives.  We stopped at the fabric store and picked out the perfect fabric that she's going to use to re-cover the glider I got on Craigslist a while back.  THANK YOU mom for your generous gift.  I can't wait to rock my baby boy in that chair!

The tea was awesome.  There were 18 official courses... and I think two extra ones.  Along with courses that included three things in them at times!  We had fun just being girls and silly and enjoying mother and daughters time!  We took pictures of every course - I'll probably post them on facebook.  They were all handmade goodies, and they were DELICIOUS!

Mom and I then got to see the cabin Kelsey lives in (so cute!) and her office.  An hour later, we were back at my parents house.... and I was packing up my stuff.  I headed home to Seattle - leaving 26.5 hours after I had arrived in Portland!!!  The drive home wasn't too bad..... and I made it home around 11pm.

I think baby Eggo missed his daddy as much as I did, because as we laid down in bed, he started kicking like crazy.  I've been complaning about my anterior placenta and how I haven't really felt kicks..... well I felt these ones!  I was pretty sure I was feeling them from the outside.... so I had Jimmy put his hand on my belly.  Sure enough - he felt at least a couple kicks or jabs!!!  SO COOL.  I think it was Eggo's early mother's day gift to me!

This morning Jimmy made me french toast and bacon for breakfast.  We figure it's the last time I'll get to eat french toast for a while.  Sad.... but I'm looking forward to making omelettes for breakfasts on the weekends!

Jimmy got me a bathrobe and slippers for mother's day!  I had mentioned I'd love to have one - and he picked out a perfect one!!!  So sweet!

I don't know what we'll do today.  It's beautiful and sunny out...... We're headed to dinner at the Melting Pot tonight, then to the Daughtry concert.  We bought the tickets a while back sorta on a whim.... and didn't realize the concert fell on Mother's day!

What a wonderful weekend!!!

I'll post more tomorrow about the meeting with the nutritionist and my new life as a GD mommy.

I hope everyone is having / had a wonderful weekend - and if you made it this far in this LONG post, bravo! :-)
